Learn to trouble shoot your issues when applying for an account

Updated over 9 months ago

Applying for a Comun account takes less than 5 minutes and can be done through the Comun app. The process is simple, no paperwork or fine print.

Our system is designed to ensure we check that you are who you say you are, and that we have the necessary information to provide you with a secure account. For this, we verify the following 3 things:

  • Your ID is yours 🕵🏻‍♀️

  • You have an address in the USA 📍

  • You have a cell phone where you can receive notifications 📲

Remember that we will not share your information or immigration status with anyone, as long as you use your card responsibly. Avoid having a negative balance in your account and do not engage in unauthorized use of your card such as fraudulent activities. If you follow the rules, your information is only yours and we won't share it with anyone!

Below you can find possible difficulties you may encounter in the application process.

What should I do if I have trouble verifying my ID?

Make sure you are complying with the following:

  • You are using an identification from this list

  • Your identification is current and not expired. You cannot apply for a Comun account if your identification is not current

  • You are taking a photo of your physical identification, not a photo of a copy or a photo of a photo. If you do not have physical identification, you cannot apply for an account

  • There is enough light for your identification to be visible in the photo. If there is too much shadow, the system will not be able to read your identification

  • In the photo you take, everything on your identification can be read, including your date of birth, full name, and expiration date

  • You are taking a photo of the front and back of your identification

  • In the photo, your complete identification can be seen, not just a part

  • Your document cannot be too damaged; it must be in good condition

What should I do if I have trouble taking a photo of my face (selfie)?

Make sure you are complying with the following:

  • There is enough light for your entire face to be visible

  • Your face matches the face on your ID

What should I do if I have issues verifying my address?

To verify that you have an address in the USA, you have two options:

  1. Use a proof of address, we will tell you which ones you can use here

  2. Use the geolocation of your cell phone

Your address must be in the USA, and you must use a valid document if you choose the option to verify your address using a document.

What should I do if I have trouble verifying my cell phone?

To verify your cell phone number, you will receive a code via SMS. You can use a cell phone number from any country, as long as it can receive SMS from the USA. Make sure you have credit on your phone. You will not be charged anything to receive the SMS, but some phone carriers may not allow you to receive SMS without credit.

If you do not receive the code, the app will give you the option to receive it via Whatsapp after the second attempt.

If you still do not receive the code, it may be that your cell phone is not activated. Talk to your phone carrier to understand if everything is okay with your cell phone.

Why was I not approved?

For security and regulatory reasons, we cannot approve certain accounts. Some of the reasons may be:

  • If you are under 18 years old, you can reapply after turning 18

  • Your ID could not be verified for some of the reasons mentioned above

  • Your address in the USA is not a residential address (it is a business address, or it is not an existing address)

  • If you used the option to verify your address with a document, the proof of address is not in your name or is not a valid document
