What is a CLABE account?

Remittances to Mexico

A CLABE (Standardized Bank Code) is a unique 18-digit bank account number used in Mexico to receive bank transfers securely.

When sending money to Mexico, the CLABE helps make sure the transfer reaches the correct bank account. 💸

Where can I find the CLABE number?

You can usually find it in:

  • Your banking app

  • Bank statements

  • Online banking

  • By contacting your bank

Is the CLABE the same as a debit card number?

No. ❌
The CLABE is different from a debit card number or regular account number.

  • CLABE: 18 digits

  • Debit card: usually 16 digits

  • Account number: length varies by bank

What happens if I enter the wrong CLABE?

If the CLABE is incorrect, the transfer may:

  • Be automatically rejected

  • Be delayed

  • Or be sent to the wrong account

We recommend double-checking all 18 digits before sending money.

Can I send money using a debit card number?

For remittances to Mexican bank accounts, you’ll usually need the recipient’s CLABE number. Some banks may also accept debit card numbers depending on the receiving institution.
